My Classy Flea Find

I am really excited to share this with you! I have been addicted to enjoying design blogs for quite some time now. Reading them has really been helping me learn what I want to incorporate into my own home. My house is so different from the one I left in Washington. I am trying to do it justice and can't afford an interior decorator so I need to learn new methods myself. I love to find new and inexpensive ways to fill my home with beautiful things. I have always been drawn to antiques and have wanted to find some stores in my area that carry them. I am on a very limited budget, so imagine my surprise when I heard about a wonderful store not too far from where I live. This store is talked about by one of my favorite bloggers, Susan. She writes about it in her posts called "Classy Flea Fridays.

Reading her posts, and finding out how inexpensive the furniture in this store is, has prompted me to stop by the Classy Flea on a weekly basis. If you read Susan's Blog, you know what wonderful things they have in their store. They are constantly getting new inventory in. I have become one of their biggest customers lately. We have so much furniture we need to buy for our home - most of our rooms are empty and we are starting fresh. My husband and I recently purchased our dining room set from the Classy Flea and I will be refinishing them and showing them to you in a future post.

Imagine my surprise one day as I was catching up on reading Susan's blog. It was a Sunday afternoon when I read this post. Scroll down until you see the cute little blue rooster in her post that Susan was surprised nobody had bought yet. She had posted this on Friday, and not knowing anything about this post until Sunday, look what I happened to buy on Saturday:

When I saw my sweet little tureen rooster in all of his glory on Susan's blog, I started jumping up and down and shouted to my husband to "Come quick and look at this!" He just looked at me like I had just lost my mind because he couldn't figure out why I would be so excited about this.

Surely you know what I was so excited about - right?

It just goes to show you - great minds think alike - or I choose to believe. :)

Here is another look at my hutch that I bought at the Classy Flea with my rooster peeking out from up top.

As you can see, I don't have any pictures on the wall yet. I told you I have a lot of work to do - I may need a lot of help from all of you talented ladies out there who are reading this. I am not sure if I should keep the room the color that it is now or change it to red. It was green when we moved in and although I like the color, I don't know how well it goes with the colors I have in this room. I mainly have blues as you can see - I need to step outside of my little box to try and include other colors though. My decorating style tends more towards "Romantic" it used to be Victorian, but I am now watering it down a bit. I love French Country, but again, I don't know how to make my colors work together.... A DEFINITE work in progress!

I'm also not sure if I should resand and finish my hutch with the same stain color it has now or paint it black. My hubby isn't as daring as some of you talented ladies out there and he is afraid we will ruin a good antique piece.

I need to end this post because I am afraid blogger won't save it. My internet connection seems to be spotty today.

Blessings,

Kymber

As I have told you, what I know about decorating, you could put in a thimble and it would rattle. Personally however I love the natural warm tones of wood over paint for most furniture. That is a personal preference, just based on my likes, though I have seen some beautiful white French Provincial bedroom suites.
I have no idea how painting your hutch would affect it's value. Some of these very smart ladies can probably tell you that.
Your rooster looks right at home and goes really well with the other dishes I can see in your hutch. Looks like you are on your way to filling your home with some lovely "Classy Flea" finds.

Hi Glenda,
I, too like the look of natural wood - but when you look at how beautiful Rhoda's (Southern Hospitality) transformed furniture turns out when she paints them black - or how furniture painted white with added wood "decals" looks when Cindy over at "My Romantic Home" refinishes her furniture - it makes me want to try something new. I probably will just leave it for awhile and see how the whole room comes together once I add new pieces to it.
Thanks for your compliment on my rooster's new home. I am having so much fun filling my house up with new treasures found from my new favorite store!
Take care,
Kymber

Kymber, I'm sooooo glad you bought that cute little rooster! And your china cabinet looks great! I used to go weekly to the flea but got so busy with Christmas, couldn't go for a while. I do love that place. I have found some of the best goodies there!
:-) Thanks for telling me about this post...made me smile! :-) Susan
